Dutch Golden Age Paintings by Abraham Mignon

Abraham Mignon was a Dutch Golden Age artist known for his  Still Life art.  His famous flower paintings incorporate ornate flowers and garlands, bouquets, fruit, game or fish, insects, and other decorative objects.

Mignon was born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1640 into a family of artists; his grandfather and father were painters. The family belonged to the Calvinist Church, a Reformation doctrine formed in 1519. His parents were shopkeepers originating from the Netherlands.

Abraham Mignon commenced his art studies at age 9 when his parents arranged an apprenticeship to a still-life artist named Jacob Marrel. He also worked under the tutelage of the Flemish Baroque still life painter Jan Davdsz de Heem. The similarity in the color palette and composition of both artists' oil paintings is evident.
