Arnold Bocklin Oil Painting Reproductions

Arnold Bocklin was born in Basel, Switzerland, in 1827.    He is known for his Symbolism painting and involvement with the Vienna Secession. Arnold Bocklin paintings and art by Gustav Klimt and Koloman Moser were displayed in the  Vienna Secession Building in 1900. Bockling was born into a well-established family of silk merchants.  His early personal life was complicated.  His fiancee died, but in 1853 Bocklin married Angela Rosa Pasucci, and together they had 14 children.  Unfortunately, eight died, some in childhood and others before Arnold Bocklin died in 1901.

Bocklin studied art in Dusseldorf and later in Europe, where he studied the work of the Old Masters.  He was a very successful and famous 19th century artist whose work displays the influence of many art movements, including the Romanticism art style of Caspar David Friedrich.  Arnold Bocklin's paintings include The Island of Life, painted in 1888, which resides at the Kuntmseum in Switzerland.  In addition, there are three versions of Arnold Bockin Isle of Dead, the artist's best-known painting, one of which is also held by the Kuntsmuseum.

Popular Arnold Bocklin paintings include Summer Day 188, an oil on canvas painting that reveals his love of  Italian landscapes, where he spent many years of his life.  In addition, Venus Anadyomene 1872 is on display at the Saint Louis Art Museum, and Roger Freeing Angelica 1873, are Symbolism painting by the artist.
