Bernardus Johannes Blommers is a Dutch artist and a Hague School art movement member. French Realism artists and the Barbizon painters influence their oil paintings.  Other famous artists associated with the Hague School include Anton Mauve and Jozef Israels.  More familiarly known as "Bernard" Blommers, the artist is known for his Genre paintings, often portraying fishermen and their families.  The Catch by Blommers and Shrimp Catch from Fishermen's Children are two of our most famous paintings by this artist.

Born in The Hague in 1845, Bernardus Johannes Blommers initially studied lithography. His early oil paintings bear remarkable similarities to paintings by Jozef Israels, another Dutch Genre artist. Both artists created oil paintings with children playing on the beach and fishermen at their work. Bernadus Blommer's oil paintings were successfully received during his lifetime and purchased by American and British art collectors.
